Threema is a new mobile messaging app that puts security first. With true end-to-end encryption, you can rest assured that only you and the intended recipient can read your messages.
Unlike other popular messaging apps (including those claiming to use encryption), even we as the server operator have absolutely no way to read your messages.
Features:
- End-to-end encryption of text messages, images and GPS locations
- Contact synchronization: find other Threema users automatically
- Send images (three size choices)
- Share your location on a map
- Verify your contacts' public keys by scanning a QR code from their mobile phone, all within the app
- Network connection status at a glance: the color of the band below the navigation bar shows whether the app is currently connected to the server.

Threema until now is one of the best. Never liked Signal, neither the nonsense moxie thoughts, nor some of his nonsense decisions. BTW the signal server is not really open source as you may think. Or do you really think they are running on production servers a code that is 1year old from the github repo? Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Signal is bad, but is not for me.

Is Threema compatible with SMS text messaging? In other words, can I send a message from Threema to a phone without Threema? And vice versa. I searched in the Support section of the website, but I didn't get any relevant results.

It's a great app that can do all you need from such a messenger. I wish that more people would come over. To pay the small one time payment is much cheaper than to pay your life long with all your data that is collected by WA and all the other "co-called-free" services. The only downside of Threema is that it is not yet OpenSource and there is no VideoCall option yet.
