Privacy-focused messaging app Threema finally introduces emoji reactions in latest update

Threema, a privacy and security-centric messaging app, has rolled out a new feature allowing users to express themselves with emoji reactions in its latest updates: Threema 5.8.1 for Android and Threema 6.6.1 for iOS. Previously limited to an agree/disagree feature, the app now supports a full range of emoji reactions, enabling users to convey a wider array of emotions in response to messages.

The process for reacting is straightforward: on Android and iOS, users can tap and hold a message to select from suggested emojis or access the full emoji picker via the “+” icon. Desktop users can achieve the same by right-clicking a message. In group chats, users can also tap existing reactions to add their own, with a counter reflecting the total reactions.

Users can apply multiple emoji reactions to a single message and have the flexibility to remove them if needed. To see who reacted with which emoji, simply tap and hold the emoji reaction. This update aligns Threema with many other messaging platforms (Signal, WhatsApp, Discord, Slack, etc.) offering similar interactive features.
