The Planet Thinks

The Planet Thinks shows Wikipedia being edited in real time on a realistic 3D day/night globe. Every spark is a live edit to an article about a place, drawn where that place is on Earth, across ~300 language editions.

What is The Planet Thinks?

The Planet Thinks shows Wikipedia being edited in real time on a realistic 3D day/night globe. Every spark is a live edit to an article about a place, drawn where that place is on Earth, across ~300 language editions. Colour shows the language; the legend distinguishes signed-in editors, anonymous editors, and bots. Click any spark to read the actual edit.

Fresh edits flare bright and cool into embers, a cinematic tour glides from edit to edit, and an optional generative ambient soundtrack makes it work as a living screensaver. There is also a live statistics page with edits per minute/hour/day by language.

Free, no sign-up, no ads. Open source (MIT); Earth imagery is NASA's public-domain Blue Marble and Black Marble. Data comes from the public Wikimedia EventStreams feed.
