Swappr is a peer-to-peer marketplace where people trade what they're good at for what they need, instead of paying cash. If you're good at something people would otherwise pay for, you have something to trade: a haircut for a logo, dog walking for a tax return, a week of meals for a brake job.
Most trades are skill for skill. When a trade is not even, tokens make up the difference — tokens are an in-app balancing unit, not currency: they cannot be withdrawn, transferred off the platform or exchanged for money, and there is no cash-out path in the product. Users earn them, starting with 100 on signup.
The categories go well beyond the trades: cleaning, organizing, cooking and baking, pet care, childcare and event help; haircuts, nails, massage and fitness training; graphic design, web development, photography and computer help; tutoring, language lessons, writing and editing, music and audio, accounting and taxes; sewing, knitting, woodworking, illustration, screen printing and tattooing; farm and local goods; and plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, auto repair, landscaping and the rest of the trades.
Every agreed trade is tracked in the app, so both people have a record of what was promised. Reporting and blocking are available on every listing, profile and conversation.
Swappr is new, and most categories in most areas are still empty. It is run by Thornline Labs, a one-person software studio in Ohio.
