SubRip is described as 'Software program for Windows which "rips" (extracts) subtitles and their timings from video. It is free software, released under the GNU GPL. SubRip is also the name of the widely used and broadly compatible subtitle text file format created by this' and is an app in the office & productivity category. There are three alternatives to SubRip for Windows, Linux and Mac. The best SubRip alternative is VideoSubFinder, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like SubRip are CCExtractor and DVDSubEdit.
VideoSubFinder allows you to create subtitles files with timing by finding video images with the text (using algorithms of digital image processing). Using text mining algorithms it separates the text of any color from images.
