What is StarWhisper?
StarWhisper is a voice-to-text and audio transcription app for Windows, powered by Whisper. It can dictate into active applications and transcribe recorded audio for meetings, notes, messages, and longer documents.
Local mode runs on the user's computer and keeps audio on the device. Users can optionally use cloud transcription when they want another processing option. Cloud use is not required for local transcription.
StarWhisper supports multiple local Whisper models, CPU and GPU acceleration, configurable hotkeys, push-to-talk and continuous dictation, custom vocabulary, text macros, themes, and multilingual speech recognition. The app can select a compatible processing backend and fall back to CPU on systems without a supported dedicated GPU.
The interface includes a compact floating recording control, model selection, audio device controls, and transcription history. Real-time transcription is available as an optional beta feature. StarWhisper offers a free version and an optional Pro subscription.
