Sound Search for Google Play is a widget that can help you recognize music and songs playing around you. Sound Search for Google Play is available in the United States on devices running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and higher.
Use Sound Search for Google Play to:
Identify songs directly from your device's Home screen and purchase them on Google Play. Keep a song identification history synced across all of your Android devices so you can identify a song but purchase it later.
Users with devices running Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) and higher can add the widget directly to the lockscreen to identify songs even faster.
After you’ve installed Sound Search for Google Play, go to the widget picker and drag the Sound Search widget onto your Home screen. Touch the widget to identify music playing around you.

It looks like Sound search has been incorporated into the Google app, even though it shows up as a separate application. (Samsung Galaxy, Android 9)
Seems to be very good at recognizing music.
pretty sure its been abandoned with no updates to run on later versions of android than marshmallow
Has this app been discontinued? It used to be quite good, and found me a few song identifications that all of Shazam, SoundHound, and TrackID failed at. However, since upgrading to from Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to 7.0 Nougat (I'm on a Sony Xperia Z5 Compact) and then doing a factory reset, the app is nowhere to be found, and I can't find it separately in the Google Play Store either.
