What is Snag?
Snag is like a better Shazam. It is a free music identification app for iPhone and Apple Watch that saves a short audio clip every time you try to identify a song. If it does not find a match, or if you are offline, the recording stays in your History instead of disappearing. You can listen again, play the recording for friends to see if they recognize it, or retry once you are back online.
When you retry, Snag checks different parts of the saved recording. This can find some songs that a single live attempt missed. Snag also keeps a searchable History with notes and optional locations, and remembers on a map where songs were recorded.
You can start recording from the app, Apple Watch, Control Center, Lock Screen, or supported Action Button controls. Snag can also analyze videos you import from Photos, which is useful for finding songs in videos from concerts or festivals. Identified songs link to Apple Music and Spotify and can be shared through a public Snag link.
Snag is free and doesn't need an account. Private history is stored in the app and in the user's private iCloud account when iCloud backup is enabled.
