What is SHM (Self-Hosted Metrics)?
SHM (Self-Hosted Metrics) is an open-source telemetry platform designed for developers who want to understand how their self-hosted applications are used without collecting personal data or tracking users.
Important : SHM is ortiented to deployed instances metrics, not for user traking & funnel.
Unlike traditional analytics tools, SHM does not rely on cookies, user identifiers, sessions, or fingerprinting. Applications simply send structured JSON events to a self-hosted API.
SHM is stack-agnostic and particularly well suited for open-source and self-hosted software, where privacy, transparency, and deployment control are critical.
Typical use cases include:
- Counting active instances
- Tracking feature usage
- Monitoring API usage patterns
- Measuring adoption without invasive analytics
SHM is built with Go, packaged with Docker, and designed to be easy to deploy and operate on your own infrastructure.
