What is Rutba Media FileServer?

Rutba Media FileServer is a Node.js media origin that keeps only the original of each file and makes other sizes when a browser asks for them. Generated sizes go to a size-capped cache that evicts the least recently used files, so the disk stays small even where a CMS would otherwise store several copies of every image.

Requests take width, height, fit, quality and format as query parameters (JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, or chosen from the Accept header), and Strapi-style prefixed URLs such as small_ and thumbnail_ keep working unchanged. Images are never upscaled. Videos and other files stream from the masters with HTTP range support, and with ffmpeg installed a video can return a still frame.

It comes with a Strapi upload provider, a migration tool that moves an existing library to masters only, and Docker and Caddy files for deployment. Licensed AGPL-3.0.
