Cool design, responsive admins, lenient moderation.
Ruqqus stopped having free speech. Censorship started to increase afterwards. It also started to become boring to an increasing amount of people. So, that is why it became a failure. Because owners of Ruqqus were not keeping their promises.
Probably the best alternative to Reddit by now
