What is Rewire Text?
Rewire Text is a system-wide text utility for macOS and Windows. It lives in the menu bar or system tray. Select text in any application, press a global hotkey, pick a transform from a command palette, and the result replaces the text where it sits.
It combines 50+ instant on-device transforms with AI-powered ones. The on-device transforms (case conversion, Markdown utilities, formatting cleanup, whitespace, encoding, JSON and CSV conversion) run locally and immediately, with no API key or network connection needed. The AI transforms (rewrite, summarize, change tone, translate, proofread, custom instructions) run through your own API key from Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI Grok, or OpenRouter, or through a local model via LM Studio, Ollama, or llama.cpp. With a local model, nothing leaves your machine.
You can assign custom hotkeys to individual transforms, so the ones you use most are a single keystroke away, and optionally skip the preview so they apply instantly. You can also chain transforms, which is useful for things like translating a block of text and then converting it to bullet points.
It's a one-time purchase with no subscription, and it works on two devices. A core subset of transforms continues to function indefinitely even after the free trial ends.
