OS & UtilitiesWhat is Revo Uninstaller?
Revo Uninstaller helps uninstall software from Windows systems and has a free and a pro version. Its main purpose is to remove unnecessary files and registry entries left behind by incomplete program uninstallation routines. Revo Uninstaller is a much faster and more powerful alternative to "Windows Add or Remove Programs" applet.
Comments and Reviews
Getting rid of leftover files is a huge space saver. The extras and links to Windows admin programs is awesome.
No regrets buying Portable PRO
After using Free Revo for 15+ years on 32-bit machines, PRO portable for 64-bit machines in 2016 was a logical step. Older incarnations of Free Revo did not even see 64-bit programs.
Today (2018) ... Free, Pro and Portable-Pro process 32-bit & 64 bit.
BUT Free is a crippled version of PRO
Comparison table on Revo website lists all 3 editions/versions, incl features compared.
Currently portable PRO is $34.62 ... half price.
Revo (or any uninstaller) in inexperienced hands can be disastrous. I have wiped a registry hive.
One danger area is "Found leftover Registry Items" window. By default Revo "checks" the entire path including the parent hive. Only the items in bold can be removed, you cannot be too careful.
I have used the Pro version of the program since 2013. I purchased a lifetime license for 3 computers. This was supposed to get me free upgrades and tech support for a lifetime. The latest update is 4.0.0 and they now expect me to buy a new license for each PC for one or two years. I was not aware my lifetime was over.
Best free solution for uninstalling.
In free version you can make registry copy and delete every program without leftovers, even system soft. Also there's functional to clean cache, logs, history of files or filled forms. The most important is that they don't promote ypu to buy paid version and they don't put malwares or adwares in free version.
Easy to remove apps and cleanup extra files
Honestly one of the most useful freemium programs I've used and my personal favorite tool as a compliment to experimenting with Windows apps (use sandbox if you do this to protect your system). Free version is more than enough for most users I would think, other than the fact it hides a force deleter/uninstaller behind a paywall. Pro-version can find specific files to forcibly delete through a search bar. Free version does have a "hunter" mode. Like most uninstallers, it initiates a program's native uninstaller and runs that before scanning for leftovers. Slight learning curve in that it requires user to select the specific leftovers you want deleted. This involves deleting registry keys and certain files with close proximity and similar names to important files. So if you're new to utilizing the registry, basic rule of thumb is only delete items with the name of the program you want to delete. Don't delete any registry folders and, if unsure, leave the item alone. Same with files in directory. Has an automatic clean option which has never caused me problems, but other uninstallers I've used have deleted necessary files, so I avoid that option. It also has the option of setting a restore point and registry backup before doing anything else. Has access to logs for many common programs that guide its cleanup, though not as extensive as some other uninstallers. When installing a new program, you can choose "install with revo" from the context menu and it will observe and record the installation process and create a new log for the program (pro version only). Pro version can also can uninstall apps downloaded from the Microsoft store via pre-installed command line entries. In general, I don't recommend using any third party installer to uninstall pre-installed OEM or first party programs. Same goes for anti-virus software. Use the native uninstaller for these and follow up with proprietary remover if needed (usually free from their websites). Or better yet, don't use third party antivirus. Microsoft Defender has replaced Windows Defender and is on par with most third party options. If used correctly, Revo can be very effective in keeping Windows clean and free of broken programs or registry problems, and can even fix some issues by guiding users to the correct registry keys, though that is really better left to native registry tools. Other installers like Geek and BCC are free and effective as well, but aren't as thorough. It has several optimization tools to clean junk files and unwanted traces as well and can function as a general cleaner. However it doesn't have a full range of customizable options like a dedicated cleaner such as Bleachbit. 4 stars for hiding a couple functions behind a paywall and having some unnecessary bloat instead. Portable and install versions available.
I prefer Geek for singular uninstalls for its speed and simplicity. I prefer Bulkcrap Uninstaller for speed of uninstalling numerous programs. Those programs leave remnants vs Revo is my understanding. Revo Uninstaller is the one I go to for my difficult uninstalls.
