Rate, list, and catalog music, videos, concerts, etc.
What is Rate Your Music?
Rate Your Music is a community-built music and film database where you can rate, review, catalog and discover new music and films as well as participate in contributing to the database itself.
- Research music and film, cross-referenced by artist, label, location, and genre.
- Charts: browse the charts to find the best (or worst) releases by any criteria, such as genre, location, release type, and more.
If you create a RYM account (which is free), you can also do the following:
- Rate, review, catalog and tag your music and film collection.
- Create your own user profile, including the ability to upload pictures, build a friends list and socialize via private messages and your shoutbox.
- Receive automatic recommendations for new music and films based on your personal ratings.
- Be notified of upcoming releases by your favorite artists.
- Create your own lists about music, films or anything else that comes to mind.
- Participate in the RYM community on the RYM forums.
- Maintain your concert attendance.
- Contribute to an always-growing public database by adding new information and improving existing data.
Rate Your Music is in the process of being rewritten and renamed, also planning to split its film section and adding video games, the three being named Sonemic (music), Cinemos (film), and Glitchwave (video games).

weekendwarrior thinks AllMusic is an alternative to Rate Your Music
The best music website out there: excellent community, etc. (Also with film/game databases, but you can make lists about anything you want; soon to rebrand as the Sonemic Network.)
Very bright-looking future on here: honestly better than competing databases in many aspects (IGDB, Letterboxd, Metacritic, etc); all the site needs is more recognition!
This is a music site where the cumulative user ratings and album rankings make sense. Great for checking new releases and for reducing...impulsive buys.
I used the site for a while but the moderation is horrendous. The mods have a single-digit IQ and look after their friends. As biased as it gets. They also take about 10 years to make any changes. For alternatives try: rate.house for everything, albumoftheyear for music or letterboxd(amazing interface) for films.
