Comment summary: Quora receives mixed reviews for its Q&A platform. Positively, users appreciate its tagging, community contributions, and personalized digest features. Many praise the diverse and professional community's helpfulness and engagement. However, criticisms revolve around its complex user interface, perceived censorship, and forced signup demands. Some users express frustration over privacy concerns and spam emails, while others criticize the moderation policies, which they view as restrictive or biased.

Quora has a wealth of excellent responses on a wide range of subjects. I enjoy reading the viewpoints of fluent people, especially the experts. Definitely on Quora, there's a lot to learn.

Quora is run by a bunch of megalomaniacal jerks, apparently.

Why do you say that?

At the moment, Quora has fairly good policies on freedom of speech. The Quora moderators due tend to be leftist, but are fairly fair compared to other mainstream social media sites.

This could change at any time, but for now, it leads to good discourse. I may update this rating if it changes in the future.

I subtracted a star because of their work with AI chatbots. Not that it is bad, but they openly accept copy and pasted answers from Sage/ChatGPT, which is degrading answer quality. If it picks up, this will quickly go from 4 stars to 1 star.

Not as good as it once was (lots of spam and the level of discourse has suffered in recent years), but still a pretty good resource.

Quora is free to use. They have a subscription that you can choose to pay for if you want, but is not necessary and 99% of the posts are not locked behind it as most people don't like it.

Just another censorship platform.

Here's a conversation between me and Quora:

Me: "I can't login to my account. Why?"

Quora: "Hi 'me'

Thank you for writing to us regarding access to your account.

Quora believes that all community members should make an effort to contribute useful content to the community and ultimately make the site a better resource for everyone.

The following are some of the reasons why we will suspend an account:

  • Vandalize editable content by all, including questions (Can anyone edit a question on Quora? What are Quora's rules about community control of questions?) and answer summaries.
  • Participate in one or more actions that violate the Be Kind, Be Respectful policy (What is the "Be Kind, Be Respectful" policy?) These actions may be related to questions, answers or comments.
  • Post a significant number of questions (What kinds of questions are not acceptable on Quora? What are the rules for deleting questions on Quora?), answers (What are Quora's rules about contracted answers? What kinds of answers and reviews are not allowed on Quora?) and/or comments that are not useful.
  • Repeatedly violate Quora's policies and/or fail to modify your behavior after receiving a content warning
  • If the account is linked to suspicious and/or malicious activity

After reviewing your activity at Quora, we can confirm that your account has been suspended for suspicious or malicious activity.

Unfortunately, the suspension of your account will not be lifted. This decision is final, you will no longer be able to use Quora.

If there is anything else we can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Sincerely,

'staff_name' User Support Quora"

Me: "I would usually ask for more details about what suspicious or malicious activity I am accused of, but given that social networks nowadays do-and-undo and censor whatever they want on their platforms, such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter... and now Quora... I think it would be a futile act, especially when I am already condemned to an irrevocable suspension even before any defense or conversation."
