What is qkt?

qkt is an open-source engine for testing trading ideas quickly. You write a strategy as one small .qkt file made of symbols, indicators and WHEN ... THEN rules, run it, read the result, tweak it and run it again, until the research is in a shape you are comfortable with. The same file runs in backtest, on a paper broker and live on MT5 brokers, Deribit and Bybit and any new adapters that can be plugged in eg alpaca, interactive brokers etc, through one pipeline. Time, ids and randomness are injected, so identical inputs always give identical trades. Every result is printed with its assumptions, including costs that were not modeled, so you know what a number does and does not mean. qkt is meant to be your first stop, not a platform you are locked into. The file is simple enough to read that you can port it to another tool whenever you choose. A JSON command line lets scripts and AI agents quote and place MT5 trades with the same journaling. Free and open source under Apache 2.0, written in Kotlin. Runs on Linux and Windows, and anywhere Java or Docker runs.
