The Internet Archive covers things that aren't books and aren't in the public domain, however they have a vast range of public domain books. It's also worth noting they focus more on page scans and PDFs and such, rather than the more readable and cleaned up Project Gutenberg format. But they're definitely good alternatives (although PG would not be a good alternative to the Internet Archive necessarily)

I don't think this is an alternative to Project Guttenberg. There is a degree of overlap, but both are amazing, though Project Gutenberg is far more specific a collection and better developed in that area. However, it has nothing like the scope of the Internet Archive, nor does it intend it.
