What is PlayWeld?

PlayWeld is a free, open-source game-development IDE built on Eclipse Theia. It brings project files, discussions, knowledge search, tool connections and supervised AI workflows into a local desktop workspace.

The project is available under the Apache-2.0 license. Public testing builds are available for Windows and Linux, with setup guides and a small Godot tutorial. The public release is a prerelease intended for testing; users should start with a disposable project and separate profile.

AI workflows use configured providers, which may receive project context and charge separately. Game engines are separate installations with their own licenses. PlayWeld was previously named GameCrafter.
