What is PictureAttic?

PictureAttic is a local desktop app that gathers your photos from every drive, phone dump and backup into a single, clean, de-duplicated archive that lives entirely on your own machine.

It reliably de-duplicates — catching the re-compressed and re-exported copies that ordinary filename/size tools miss — so in a typical family collection, a large share turns out to be duplicates. It reads from compressed and nested archives (zip, 7z, rar and more) so nothing is left behind, files everything by capture date, and never silently drops a photo that exists in only one place.

Deliberately not cloud, not AI, and not a subscription. Your photos never leave your computer, there is no account and nothing is uploaded. It is desktop software you buy once and own, and all minor updates are free.

PictureAttic is one of the Attic apps, which apply the same approach to email, documents, chats and contacts.

Platforms: Windows and Linux (macOS coming). One-time purchase.
