Petit Fire

Petit Fire puts a candle light in the corner of your Mac screen while you work.

Click the menu bar icon to light it. Click it again to put it out.

Along the edge of your screen it draws the warm light of a small flame. Its soft sway is taken from the brightness of a real candle, filmed and bundled with the app, weighted towards the slow swells so it settles into the background instead of catching your eye.

FIVE THINGS TO CHANGE

Brightness, size, place (bottom left, bottom center or bottom right), volume, and sound on or off. All of them live in the same menu. There is no separate settings window.

THE SOUND OF A WOODEN WICK

The optional sound is a recording of a wooden-wick candle, released to the public domain by the person who made it. The app never loops it: each time it takes a different stretch and crossfades into it, so it does not settle into a pattern you can hear.

EVERY FEATURE IS FREE

It all works from the first launch. The About panel has a tip jar.

The light is drawn with Metal over whatever you have open, and clicks pass straight through it. It shows best against a dark background. macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel.
