    pdfEncrypt is free, open-source, does not try to connect to the internet, and has a very simple GUI.

    You also do not have to download it. Although pdfEncrypt now has Windows binaries and is also on the Windows store, you can just download the ZIP from the release page in Github, and open the .exe in the folder.

I like PDFEncrypt because :

  1. It's Open Source,
  2. Offline (does not require you upload your unencrypted PDF document to a server),
  3. Defaults to AES-256 encryption.

I cannot believe how I survived without this software. I often need to print documents from public computers. This software is lightweight and does the work perfectly. It supports 32 characters for password.

What is PDFEncrypt?

PDFEncrypt is a free, open-source utility for Windows that encrypts any PDF file using industry-standard encryption algorithms. Simply select the unencrypted file, enter a password, and the encrypted file is generated. PDFEncrypt also provides advanced settings and features like "run program after encryption is complete" so that it can be used in a toolchain of other apps.
