What is PatchLight?

Windows updates break PCs more often than they should: black screens, Remote Desktop failures, broken audio. Microsoft usually lists these problems publicly, but nobody checks that list before updating.

PatchLight checks every update waiting on your PC against Microsoft's own list of known problems and gives it a light:

  • Green (Safe): no known problems.
  • Yellow (Wait): a problem with a workaround, or it came out less than 3 days ago.
  • Red (Problems): Microsoft confirmed it breaks something.

Features:

  • Tray icon that turns green, yellow or red, plus a notification when an update has known problems.
  • Pauses only the bad updates with one click. Everything else keeps installing.
  • Pause red updates automatically (on by default).
  • Never blocks forever: a paused update resumes as soon as Microsoft fixes it, and every pause ends after 14 days (up to 35).
  • "What broke my PC?": the History tab marks the recent update most likely behind an open problem, and can uninstall it.
  • Checks new Windows versions (like 26H2) before you upgrade.
  • Early warnings from tech news (Neowin, Windows Latest) days before Microsoft lists a problem.
  • Ignores business-only problems on home PCs.
  • Optional "wait before installing new updates" (3, 7 or 14 days).
  • Command line tool included (patchlight.exe).

Free and open source (MIT). No account, no server, no tracking: your PC reads Microsoft's public Windows release health pages directly. Uninstalling resumes every update it paused.
