What is Parallel Media Encoder?

Parallel Media Encoder (PME) is a macOS transcoding tool for Apple Silicon, used by editors and post-production facilities. It uses Mac's hardware encoders to encode multiple files simultaneously, speeding up batch transcodes and dailies.

PME supports camera RAW formats like ARRI, Blackmagic RAW, RED R3D, Canon Cinema RAW Light (.CRM), and ProRes RAW. It's also compatible with Sony and Canon MXF and Insta360 video, and allows output in ProRes, H.264, HEVC, DNxHR, and DNxHD formats, preserving source timecode, audio, and metadata.

PME offers workflow tools like custom presets with 3D LUTs, watch folders, a command-line tool, a local REST API, AppleScript, and a built-in MCP server. This server allows AI assistants to examine media and queue encodes. PME has a free version for personal, educational, and evaluation purposes, and a Pro version for $39 per Mac, which includes more features and allows commercial use.
