I use OSS Doc Scanner as I switch from iOS to Android. The good part is that it is open source and local, which feels safe. While, compared with the TurboScan I used in my previous iPhone, I do feel like the scanning quality of OSS Doc Scanner is not good enough, the docs scanned via camera is usually with low resolution; and the image processing quality of white and coloured documents etc., are not satisfying.

It allows to scan and de-skew documents, post-process it and export in a certain format, e.g. DIN-A4, as PDF.

OSS Document Scanner is what I now use as an alternative to CamScanner.

It's a little bit different, and that may be due to my Android operating system (GrapheneOS).

When I try to use the camera in OSS Document scanner, the text is often hard to read and blurry. It doesn't capture well for whatever reason.

So what I do is take the photos on my phone and select them inside OSS Doc Scanner and the filters make it grayscale, remove any text you can see through from the other side, and otherwise cleans it up. It then gives me a 100-200kb jpg or pdf.

CamScanner works well for taking the photo, but the filters it has are actually worse than OSS Scanner. Plus CamScanner is closed-source, Chinese company and has a huge footprint. OSS Scanner is faster and smaller.

An open source alternative to mobile scanner apps like Microsoft Lens, Adobe Scan or CamScanner.

Open Source, with no ads.

Do not worry about my privacy.

This is my alternative to CamScanner. Did fiddle with Microsoft Lens, but that's been deprecated. It works quite well, but I did disable the auto-capture as it got in the way at time.

I started looking for an alternative to CamScanner because it has become a mercenary program. Extremely expensive and full of bait to get you to use the subscription version. In short, a complete piece of electronic junk. If there was a one-time purchase price, I might not have looked for an alternative. But the annual price of CamScanner would be reasonable for a definitive purchase. That is outright robbery.

I haven't used this app fully yet, only tested it. But from my tests, the program meets all your needs for photocopying documents very well. Straightforward and simple! No tricks or deceptive tactics. No ads. A program truly made by someone who loves technology and wants to share a better world. Thank you to the developers.
