What is Orkas?

Orkas is an MIT-licensed, local-first desktop app for coordinating AI agents. A Commander turns a goal into a plan and routes work to built-in specialists for research, coding, documents, presentations, design, and video. The same workspace can connect to separately installed Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, OpenClaw, and Hermes-Agent as local sessions. Conversations and project files stay on the device by default; remote model providers and online research still need network access and may incur provider charges. Use official managed models (500 free credits for new users) or supported providers with your own API key; model settings are global. The open-source desktop edition is free; model usage and optional hosted services may cost extra. Installers are available for macOS and Windows.
