What is Orchestrator?

Orchestrator is a macOS app for following AI-assisted development from a task through the resulting code changes. Its positioning is “VS Code × Codex × Jira”: repository files, coding-agent conversations and a task board in one workspace.

Developers can browse repository files alongside Codex conversations, organise work on a Kanban board, inspect delegated subagent conversations and activity, and review local code changes. The workflow starts with a task, continues with Codex, and finishes with inspection of the resulting diff.

The core workflow uses a bundled standalone Codex app-server. A separate Codex desktop app, Codex CLI installation or Homebrew is not required for that core workflow. Optional Browser, Computer Use and plugin integrations remain experimental and may depend on external components.

Orchestrator is free and MIT-licensed. A supported Codex account is required; the account provider’s usage limits and costs still apply. The public beta supports Apple Silicon and Intel Macs running macOS 15 or later. It is not notarized by Apple yet; the README explains installation and current limitations. Claude and local-model support are planned, not currently available. Orchestrator is an independent community project.
