What is Opera Mail?
Opera Mail powerfully organizes, indexes, and sorts your messages.
It has spam filtering (both automated and Bayesian), supports POP3 and IMAP, newsgroups as well as Atom and RSS feeds.
Opera Mail uses one database that keeps an index of all mail, and sorts the messages automatically into several "views" or accesspoints. Messages are automatically sorted by type, such as mailing lists, and mail with attachments . This approach to indexing allows for quicker access to messages. For instance, a message sent to a mailing list with a word document attached will appear in both the "Documents" attachment view and in the "Mailing lists" view. Opera Mail can also use Bayesian filtering to automatically sort messages into other views. All messages in the database are accessed by opening the "Received" view.
Opera Mail is no longer updated and supported, but last version, 1.0.1044, released in February 2016, can be still downloaded from the official website.

Using it for years, it is one of the most stable, very fast search engine and smooth integration with contacts.
Not yet stable enough on Ubuntu, crashing on adding gmail mailbox or login method check.
I'd be all over this, if only it supported GPG encryption. But it doesn't so it's not an option.
Fun fact: Opera's unique search driven email interface actually predates gmail. I ended up switching back to Opera Mail (previously called "M2") after making the decision to close all Google accounts.
The contact management, import/export, and (non-existent) sync sucks, and there's no support for encryption, but aside from those drawbacks I'm pretty happy with it.
