What's not to like? OpenHAB is free, open source, has an active developer community supporting it, is easy to install for anyone even slightly technical, continues to release improvements and integrations and generally works very well. DIY home automation isn't a 'plug in and everything magically works' sort of thing, but with openHAB and some spare time to configure it you will be happy you aren't paying a monthly fee to a 3rd party and have a system that handles multiple protocols (Z-Wave, ZibBee, X10, Philips Hue, ect, ect) with ease.

It's a very powerful environment allowing you to interface with a large variety of devices. If you know how to write code it is also a very powerful way to automate tasks among many different devices in your house.
