What is Ocean?

Ocean is a browser-based, collaborative music making platform - a fun set of musical tools which help you express yourself through sound & learn the fundamentals of music production as you do so.

Users can explore a range of sonic cultures through the sound library, and add new sounds through the waveform sampler via WAV/MP3 upload or digging through the FreeSound Creative Commons library. These sounds then power the sequencer, where users can create beat patterns and sequence full tracks in the arranger. In one click, users can collaborate on their projects in real time.

Ocean has a reddit-style karama system built in. When some drops a sound into their beat, the uploader gets a point. We can track the DNA of each sound, how it gets built into longer loops by users and how those loops are then remixed by others in the community. This gives rise to interesting re-interpretations of your original samples. A user could sample a drum-break while they have breakfast, and by lunch they could hear many re-interpretations of the sound from users around the world.

We are in the process of building more complex sequencing, instruments, effects and more to enrich the music making experience.

Explore sounds, sequence beats and share your creation with the world with Ocean.
