It's built from the ground up using QT. Since Notepad++ uses the Win32 API, there's really no easy way to add fixes to make it compile on Linux/Mac.
It's missing some features, but it's still nice to use on Linux.

What is Notepad Next?
A cross-platform, reimplementation of Notepad++. Releases are available for Windows, Linux, and macOS.
Though the application overall is stable and usable, it should not be considered safe for critically important work.

Ugly Notepad++ clone
It's cross platform, it's non-political, it has very similar interface. How is it ugly?
If you don't like it, don't use it, very simple
It is not a clone of Notepad++ and does not have many features in Notepad++ such as sorting line or saving "without saving" open notes.
The second thing you say it has. It's still experimental -but is working for me-
Go to preferences check: Restore previous sessions, unsaved changes, temporary files
