Nolto is an open-source professional social network for building connections, sharing knowledge and finding work. As an alternative to LinkedIn, it brings together professional profiles, organisation pages, job listings, articles, events and private conversations in an ad-free environment.
Users can showcase their experience, education and skills, receive skill endorsements, connect with colleagues and follow people without requiring a mutual connection. Organisations can create their own pages, while a dedicated freelancer directory helps people find professionals by expertise, location and availability for full-time, part-time or project-based work. Shareable starter packs bring together collections of people that users can explore and follow.
You choose what appears in your feed. Posts appear in chronological order rather than being ranked by predicted engagement. Create custom feeds around selected people, organisations, hashtags and keywords, mute unwanted terms, control whether replies and reposts appear, and choose between manual loading and infinite scrolling. Public posts can also be browsed without an account.
Privacy controls extend beyond the feed. Users can set visibility for individual profile sections and export their data. New private messages between Nolto users support end-to-end encryption, with encryption and decryption performed in the browser and inbox keys protected by a separate passphrase. Nolto does not sell personal data.
Nolto includes ActivityPub-based federation features and AT Protocol integration. Users can connect their Mastodon account, sign in with Bluesky through AT Protocol, or link their Bluesky identity to an existing Nolto account. Experimental support for Mastodon-compatible clients provides additional ways to access the network. The current AT Protocol integration focuses on sign-in and identity linking, rather than synchronising posts and interactions between Nolto and Bluesky.
The web interface supports multiple languages and light and dark themes. Released under the MIT licence, Nolto’s source code is available for anyone to inspect, modify and contribute to.
