What is Nexo S3?

Nexo is an open-source, S3-compatible object storage server. One binary runs the S3 API, an admin API and a web console, on a single drive, on several drives with erasure coding, or as a multi-node cluster. It passes all 451 applicable Ceph s3-tests, so existing S3 tools (aws CLI, rclone, SDKs, backup software) work unchanged.

Uploaded MP4 videos stream as HLS immediately, and an optional media worker adds renditions from 240p to 4K, posters and thumbnails without ffmpeg. Uploaded images are converted to AVIF, WebP, JPEG and PNG at several widths, and the same URL serves the best format for each browser.

Includes versioning, object lock, encryption, lifecycle rules, bucket notifications, Prometheus metrics, Docker images, a Helm chart and packages for Linux, macOS and Windows.
