NewsNest is a self-hosted news reader. It collects stories from your RSS and Atom feeds into one feed and ranks them by what you care about.
When several outlets cover the same event, NewsNest groups them into one story. It uses Claude, through your own Anthropic API key, to score each story on topic, importance and relevance to your interests. Your interests are a plain text file that you write yourself or have drafted from a few ratings. Likes, dislikes and reading habits adjust the ranking over time. Suggested changes to your interests are applied only after you approve them, and a calibration view shows the scores and reasons behind every story.
Other features include short summaries on demand, keyword watches and filters, full-text search, a swipe mode for sorting stories, and alerts when a feed stops working.
A daily spending cap limits API costs (default $0.50). Without an API key the app still works and shows stories newest first. All data is kept in a single SQLite file on your server, and NewsNest sends no telemetry.
NewsNest runs as a single Docker container on amd64 and arm64. It’s a mobile-friendly web app that can be installed to your phone’s home screen. MIT licensed.
