What is Broom Diskless?

Broom network-boots a room of PCs (PXE + iSCSI) from one shared golden image. Every write a user makes lands on the PC's local SSD and is wiped at the next boot, so every machine comes up clean. It is built for internet cafés, gaming centers, school labs and classrooms of about 10–30 machines.

The server is a single static binary for any x86_64 Linux, with DHCP, TFTP, iPXE, an iSCSI target and a web admin built in — nothing else to install. Build the golden in a VM, upload the VM folder from the browser, and Broom publishes it.

Highlights:

  • Windows 11 Pro and Linux clients; Windows runs natively from a VHDX cached on each PC's SSD, so the server stays quiet
  • Secure Boot, TPM 2.0 and HVCI on the clients — works with FACEIT Anti-Cheat
  • Shared games disks: update a game once on one PC, every PC gets it at its next boot
  • Instant snapshots / rollback of the golden image
  • Machine groups with their own boot menus, images and games disks
  • Wake-on-LAN and live machine status in the web admin
  • Free and open source (Apache-2.0), no per-PC licence
