My Review is based on the review on http://www.brighthub.com/computing/smb-security/reviews

Author of the original review: Donna Buenaventura • Updated Feb 4, 2011

Advantages:

  • Installing MojoPac on USB drive let you have your Windows on that drive.
  • The installation of MojoPac is by far easier than installing a virtual machine like VMware Player or Virtual Box
  • MojoPac is the only really working portable App, where you can install your own apps in a "Portable Virtual Machine" with admin rights only on the Host, where you install Mojopac the first time.
  • What you have in your MojoPac stays in MojoPac which means no traces are left in the main system.

Disadvantages:

  • In Juli 2011 MojoPac does not support newer operating systems, but MojoPac currently works only with 32-bit of Home, Professional and Media Center editions of Windows XP. Vista 64 bit is not supported
  • You must deactivate Avast Free 5 on the host system, otherwise MojoPac will not start or if only started with deactivated Avast, you will get many error messages on the MojoPac system with later activated Avast . I tested successfully using Microsoft Security Essentials on the MojoPac Host instead of Avast Free , which I normally use. Whereas Avast on the Host is not compatible with a MojoPac Guest Microsoft Security Essentials on the MojoPac Host is compatible with a Mojopac Guest.
  • You can import and export your data or files from MojoPac to your host (main) system but this option is available to Professional edition of MojoPac as per the program.
  • If you rather use the free edition, you can still transfer the files by simply switching to host (main) system and browse for the directory of MojoPac then start transferring by copying what you want to copy to and from MojoPac or hosts PC. Not quite convenient if we will compare with VirtualBox or Virtual PC
  • MojoPac Guest Toolbar cannot be moved from the top to the right side of the screen, so it conflicts with VMware toolbar, if the MojoPac Host itself is already a VMware Virtual Machine
  • You can only assign a drive letter to a network directory with the "net use" command, you see all drive letters of the host-system
  • You cannot use the subst-command inside the MojoPac-system for folders of C:\ , but you can assign drive letters, which are not assigned, to folders of the mirror-drive (W) of C, to USB-drives or folders of drives of the host.

Summary: Very positive, because there is no working portable VM as an alternative

  • For me the total assessment is highly positive, because I know no really working alternative to MojoPac as a free very easy to use portable Windows XP as portable App on a USB-HardDisk.
  • Moka5, QEMU portable or the Portable VirtualBox are no working portable alternatives, which can be used without admin rights on foreign computers with Windows XP!

Great looking app but only supports XP and will not run in compatibility mode with Win7.
