What is Mock Band?

Mock Band is a free browser-based backing band for practice, rehearsal accompaniment and riff sketching. It generates drums, bass and chord accompaniment, with controls for tempo, key, meter, swing and individual parts.

Recorded acoustic drums and a synthesized rhythm-guitar sound accompany ready-made galloping-metal, doom, death-metal and progressive-metal setups. Each has four editable sections; the player explicitly loads a setup, starts audio and changes sections at the next bar. The synth drum kit remains available while recordings load or if they are unavailable. The progressive setup uses 7/8 with a 2+2+3 grouping. These are generated practice arrangements, not song transcriptions or original recordings.

Use the visible controls, text commands, or keyboard shortcuts. Voice commands are available in supported browsers, so a player can try changing the accompaniment while keeping their hands on an instrument. Browser support and permissions affect voice availability.

Ten local scene slots can store named setups for sections such as Verse, Chorus, and Solo. Scenes can be imported, exported, and shared as settings files; this is not audio recording or MIDI-file export. The app opens without an account or email gate. It is currently an independent experiment, not a full DAW or a cloud collaboration service.
