MidiSlayer information
What is MidiSlayer?
MidiSlayer is a desktop sight-reading trainer for pianists. Plug in a MIDI keyboard and the app compares what you play against engraved notation as you play it, marking each note right or wrong at the moment it arrives.
It has nine training modes: Note Flashcards, Graded Reading on a ladder from Initial to Grade 8, Intervals, Chords, Arpeggios, Scales, Key Signatures, Harmony Compass and Chord Progressions. Practice mode adds a public-domain score library of 69 pieces and loads your own MusicXML files. Wait mode holds the score until you play the right note; Tempo mode keeps the clock running whatever you do.
There are also three arcade games with a daily challenge, and a seven-lesson course that starts at what a staff is and ends where the training modes begin.
The app runs natively on macOS, Windows and Linux. MIDI timing is stamped in a native layer and practice data stays in a local database on the machine. After one online activation it works offline.
The free version includes Note Flashcards in full, the whole reading course, a daily game, the entire score library to browse and listen to, and four pieces playable.
Made by Monoglyph Ltd in the UK. In Early Access since August 2026 and updated regularly.
