margin information
What is margin?
Margin is an open-source team communication app that brings messaging, channels, and voice & video calls together in one place. Built as a European alternative to Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Discord.
Teams organize into margins (workspaces) with channels for topics and projects, alongside direct messages and group conversations. Voice and video work for both private 1:1 calls and group calls in voice channels, with no separate conferencing tool needed. Private and groups chats have optional E2E encryption called "Secret chats".
Key features:
- Team channels, direct messages, and group conversations
- Voice and video calls — 1:1 and group
- Optional Secret mode: end-to-end encrypted private and group chats, where the server relays signals only and never reads or stores message content
- Hosted entirely on European infrastructure, GDPR-compliant
- Fully open source — every line of code available on Codeberg
- Designed to be simple enough that no IT department is needed to run it
Margin is available on the web and as a desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Developed in Aarhus, Denmark.
