What is Magellan Explorer?
Magellan Explorer is an advanced, yet easy to use, Windows file manager based on the powerful dual window pane concept. Previous users of the Norton Commander file manager and similar tools will feel right at home. It can also act as a Windows Explorer replacement with a tree view on the left. The interface is completely customizable, with over 100 options to adapt it to your own personal taste.
Comments and Reviews
Has been my go-to file manager at work and home for a decade after getting a trial on the cover of a magazine! One of the first Shareware programs I ever bought the full version of! Unfortunately as previous commenter points out, the date issue makes it fairly unusable now in any kind of development environment, although it might still be OK for home/casual use.
I've had a lot of trouble tracking down a replacement I like. The key features being the double panel and integrated FTP. Neither Double Commander or WinSCP did the trick for me. However I'm currently trialing WinNC, which is the closest I've found.
Sadly, Magellan Explorer is no longer useable! The date of any file which has been created in 2021 is displayed as 2020. (Windows & Linux both hold the correct date & time stamp correctly but Magellan displays a file dated "01/01/21" as "01/01/20". Double Commander displays correctly.)
I've been happily using Magellan Explorer since about 2002 - it's been massively useful, so I'm really sad to have to abandon it and switch to an alternative - I've been testing Double Commander since it runs on both Linux & Windows but I still prefer the simplicity of Magellan.
