I highly recommend you do not waste time or money on this app. I've found an excellent alternative: MacUpdater (catchy name, no?). FAR superior. ...I have no connection with MacUpdater.

I finally had to reboot into safe mode to get ride of the program. The website is not a useful as it once was either. In the programmer's effort to make money MacUpdate has effectively been run into the ground and seems to be headed to the center of the Earth. I never actively browse this site for software, but whenever it shows up in my Google searches, I know that it's good. In this regard, MacUpdate is a really helpful website for finding obscure Mac software.
The desktop client has effectively degenerated into crap and, at least on my copy of Mac Sierra, is difficult to get rid of - despite everything the finder would complain the program was running even though I had quit it - even using Activity Manager didn't help. Website is pretty decent. Their desktop client used to be great, showed all apps with available updates and would handle updates for you, up to 5 per month for free users. Now you have to pay to get any useful functionality at all out of the desktop app. Disappointing :(
I originally switched from versiontracker to macupdate because the former started using obfuscated links and annoying tricks to increase page views, whereas macupdate was simple at the time. Now macupdate is everything that sucked about versiontracker and worse, and started wrapping downloads in their own installers which either already installs unwanted malware, or i expected it to soon.
I no longer recommend macupdate and am looking for an alternative, although with more apps shipping on app stores or having their own self-update mechansims, the need for such a service is becoming less and less.
