Lyraboo

Lyraboo is an audiobook app for Android with full-cast AI narration. It analyses the text of a book, separates narration from dialogue, identifies the characters and assigns each one a distinct voice, so dialogue-heavy fiction stays followable — closer to an audio drama than to single-voice text-to-speech. Non-fiction is read in a single narrator voice.

The app combines a library, a player and the narration engine: books live in the app, audio is generated chapter by chapter in the background, and playback offers chapters, speed control, progress sync and background listening. Under the player, the text scrolls with the voice like song lyrics: words light up as they are spoken, each line is labelled with its speaker, and tapping a word jumps there.

Books come from two places. Over 1,000 public domain classics in English are built into the app, taken from Project Gutenberg and similar archives, so there is nothing to buy. Users can also add EPUB, PDF and TXT files they own; DRM-protected files and scanned PDFs without a text layer are not supported.

Every account gets one free hour of listening each month, with no card needed; subscriptions add more hours. Hours are consumed once, when a chapter is first generated — for built-in classics and uploaded books alike — and replaying audio that already exists is free.

English books sound best. Narration in Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian and Russian is available in beta; the app detects the book's language on its own. The app interface is in English, and Lyraboo is available on Android only.
