Works great, I have to deal with a lot of tedious data entry sometimes. Having another spreadsheet program is useful for running basic ETL (extract, transform, load) processes. Usually I would use Microsoft access for this, but I am lazy and this tool doesn't require any knowledge but excel, plus its fast.
The "save as copy" is a great feature found in adobe programs but Microsoft excel offers no such thing.
I normally associate all .csv and .xlsx .xslm file types through excel, and just run one libreoffice file to help clean excel data
Libreoffice runs much smoother for doing common tasks like "Paste as value" which I always worry will crash with excel.
CONS: Sometimes my mousy gets buggy and fizzes out near the menubar, I do not know why this is though. Only happens with libreoffice calc. It also has a habit of crashing and completely bricking my keyboard so I cant type

You have a spreadsheet with maybe around 2000 rows and some conditional formatting that apply to third of those rows, nothing crazy, just everyday stuff...
You open that file in Excel, it takes a second to open the app, another second to render everything, now you're in business: navigating around is a breeze and there are even some subtle animations here & there to make it look smooth.
You open the exact same file in Calc, the splash screen comes & goes, then you sit there waiting with an empty screen and a frozen progress bar for like 20 seconds before even the menus get slowly drawn on screen... then you hold down an arrow key and this "open-source, battle-tested, industry-standard" app takes 1 whole second to scroll a single row into view!!
I'm sorry, are you all gaslighting us when you sing the praises of this thing? Do I have to be using Linux for it to even function? What is this utter garbage?!?
Useless garbage i comparison to Excel. In case of available features, it should be considered as Excel 2000 alternative, but fall flat in performance aspect.
Seriously, it doesn't support even simple tables! It lacks freaking tables! And what with more advanced stuff, like power pivots, dynamic tables or at least calculating elements in regular pivots?
I was working for government, and we are forcing to use free software, Calc included. And it wasn't a nice experience.
It sort of works for very basic usage, but nothing more. The UI is a disaster, the software unstable and bugs are numerous. Sad that it's the only open-source alternative to Excel. Since the first version of OpenOffice 10 years ago, I don't see much improvements. These softwares try to copy features and paradigms from Excel, fall in the same traps, and at the same time they offer an UX that doesn't come close to Excel, and is sorely lacking in consistency.
Edit: Since then I discovered an alternative, OnlyOffice. It is much better.
There is no way to load data from databases. UI looks awful. Crashes happen sometimes. Hope some day it will approach MS Excel but it will take many years.
I don't reallly think there's any significant disadvantage of Calc against Excel for standard user. If you're not some geek or professional working with huge amounts of data, which could lead to crashes of this app, it's a nice free alternative for anyone. I use it regularly and it works like a charm.
Libreoffice - calc is a great open source free Excel alternative
