What is KompoZer?
KompoZer is a complete web authoring system that combines web file management and easy-to-use WYSIWYG web page editing.
KompoZer is designed to be extremely easy to use, making it ideal for non-technical computer users who want to create an attractive, professional-looking web site without needing to know HTML or web coding.
It is based on the NVU source code.
Discontinued
The project seems to be discontinued. Latest stable version, 0.7.10, was released on 2007 and last development version, 0.8b3, on 2010, but the program is still downloadable from the official website.

This is a really nice, light web editor. It has a very good Wysiwig interface in which you can do quite sophisticated formatting, including CSS, without having to edit the html source directly. If you need to edit the html, you can load the web page into the editor of your choice (such as BBEdit) from Kompozer and then return the edited source to Kompozer.
Of course, it is discontinued, so there are a number of niggling bugs that won't get fixed and it won't be updated for HTML 5, etc., but it works, and it is easier to use than, say, Blue Griffon.

I like the feel of this program, but there are too many niggling issues. And it appears they will never been fixed. As of writing, it's been over a year since their last update.
Kompozer cannot open php files :-( ... only if you change the file extention to html first.
Should really have an option for simple image editing. Simply being able to resize a picure from a digital camera before uploading to the web site, would work wonders. Also, I could not get the latest version to connect to my site, even if Seamonkey Composer connects to the same site willingly...
the latest version would not open sites in the site manager. It would open a remote browse session, so I know all the settings are correct.
I used to use Dreamweaver but when I tried to revamp an old web site I learned my version of Dreamweaver was not really compatible with CSS. I stumbled on Kompozer by accident and really like it now. First, it is free and that is always good. Beside that it is also feature rich for a free application. The web site said there are some bugs in it but I haven't found any yet.
