What is knob.monster?
knob.monster is a web-based SysEx librarian and cloud backup tool for vintage synthesizers from the 1980s and 90s. Connect a USB-MIDI interface in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Opera, dump soundbanks from hardware such as Yamaha DX7, Roland Juno-106, Korg M1, JV1080, and Prophet-class gear, then search patch names in a private online vault.
Unlike MIDI-OX, Snoize, or desktop MIDI Quest installs, knob.monster requires no drivers, no local app, and no buffer tuning. SysEx transfers are paced for slow 8-bit synth CPUs. Banks can be flashed back to hardware or downloaded as standard .syx files at any time.
Features include dedicated patch-name parsers for major synth families, generic bulk backup for other machines, fuzzy search across banks, and lifetime licensing (not a subscription). Free tier available; Personal is $39 one-time for hobby use; Studio is $399 one-time for commercial use at one location.
