What is Kilo Lingo?

Most language apps teach you "elephant" before "I need". Kilo Lingo does it the other way round. The thousand most common words in a language cover roughly 80% of everyday speech, so every course is built on a real frequency list and works through it in order.

Each chapter teaches the next batch of words with quick, varied drills, then gives you a graded story written only with words you've already met, so you can read it without a dictionary. Grammar comes in short, example-led guides with practice drills, and the gotchas spelled out. Nine games, from a word bubble shooter to a daily word puzzle, recycle the words you're learning. You can also subscribe to have daily grammar tips and word drills sent to your email.

There are 10 languages with at least 1,000 words in their frequency course as well as courses for the A-level and GCSE curriculums in the UK, with North American equivalents in the backlog.

Chapters 1 and 2 of every course are free, with no time limit. Plus unlocks the rest, with a 7-day free trial. No ads.
