What is Keybase?
Keybase is a new and free security app for mobile phones and computers. For the geeks among us: it's open source and powered by public-key cryptography.
Keybase is for anyone. Imagine a Slack for the whole world, except end-to-end encrypted across all your devices. Or a Team Dropbox where the server can't leak your files or be hacked.
Keybase is a messaging platform where:
- you can write securely to any twitter, reddit, facebook, github, and hacker news user
- you don't need to know someone's phone number or email address
- all messages are secure, end-to-end encrypted
- multi-device: your messages survive and transfer with encryption to new phones & computers
- free for everyone, and free of ads
- open source
- multi-platform, w/apps for macOS, Linux, and Windows

Comments and Reviews
Wish Keybase was federated/decentralized, but notwithstanding the drawback of a centralized server, it is an excellent app.
It's a great app for end to end encryption. It does totally deserves 5 stars. Easy to use but there are 3 drawbacks.
I removed 3 stars.
Basically this developer is crypto version of Mark Zuckerberg.
Keybase is nearly entirely abandoned, last blog post is from 2020, Github issues are all ignored, only updates that come out are updates to client dependancies. They where brought out by Zoom and Zoom killed all development of Keybase.

Initially I liked Keybase for what it offered, but after its recent acquisition by Zoom there are now privacy concerns that anyone interested in retaining their privacy should consider. Good alternatives at the moment appear to be Signal and Wickr, among others.

It's a collaboration tool with security in mind. Too bad we live in a world in which security is an extra. With the larger, cloud based collaboration tools, you never know if the company behind it is watching and stealing your precious ideas.
Great all-in-one app providing encrypted private/shared file storage, git repos, and chat. It may not be the most secure or distributed tool for these use cases, but it's certainly the most accessible for the average user.
