InkSpine is an offline-first writing app for fiction writers, memoirists and non-fiction authors. It combines a distraction-free Markdown editor, structured notes on the people, places and ideas in your book, and validated EPUB 3 and DOCX export, plus a proof-copy PDF, in one tool.
Choose what you are writing when you start a project. A novel keeps Characters, Lore and Story Arcs; a memoir says People, Places and Threads; a non-fiction book says Works & topics, Arguments and Coverage. The words change, your files don't, and you can switch at any time.
Every project is a plain folder of Markdown and JSON files on your own disk, with automatic version history. No account is needed to write, and it works offline. Included: a corkboard, plot overview, story-arc board, full-text search, in-text figures and footnotes, and a distraction-free Flow mode.
Runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. There is a permanent free version that never caps your writing. InkSpine Core is a one-time purchase, not a subscription, and adds the publishable EPUB, DOCX and PDF files and unlimited notes.
