What is iGrade?
iGrade is a grading assistant for K-12 teachers. The teacher photographs an answer key, photographs each student's paper, and iGrade returns scores along with a list of questions the system was not confident about — flagged for the teacher's review rather than auto-marked.
iGrade is designed to work on ordinary photographs of any test format: multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, short answer, and handwritten free response. No special answer sheet, bubble form, or scanner is required. A standard phone or tablet camera is sufficient. Tests of any length are supported — a single-page quiz and a 15-page final exam are both counted as one paper per student.
The system is built around a privacy boundary: student names and identifying information are never stored or transmitted to any AI service. The header region of each scanned page is masked locally before any text is sent for processing, and the original image is purged after grading completes. iGrade is designed to be compatible with FERPA, COPPA, and similar U.S. student-data regulations.
iGrade explicitly positions itself as an assistant, not an autograder. When the AI is uncertain about a free-response answer, the question is flagged for the teacher rather than scored. When the system detects an unusually high rate of uncertainty across a paper, it raises an audit warning and asks the teacher to verify before publishing. Teachers retain final control over grading, feedback, and student communication.
The web application is available now at igradeapp.com. iOS and Android versions are available through the respective app stores.
