What is IAP Desktop?

IAP Desktop is a Windows client for Remote Desktop and SSH to Google Compute Engine VMs through Identity-Aware Proxy (IAP) TCP forwarding, including VMs without a public IP address. It runs several RDP and SSH sessions in tabs, uploads and downloads files over SFTP, generates Windows logon credentials, publishes SSH keys to OS Login or instance metadata, and connects client applications such as SQL Server Management Studio through IAP tunnels. It lists VMs across projects and organizations and shows their logs and serial port output. It is open source under the Apache 2.0 licence, developed by the Google Cloud Solutions Architects team, and not an officially supported Google product. It runs on Windows 10 and 11 without admin rights.
