What is HxD?
HxD is a carefully designed and fast hex editor which, additionally to raw disk editing and modifying of main memory (RAM), handles files of any size.
The easy to use interface offers features such as searching and replacing, exporting, checksums/digests, insertion of byte patterns, a file shredder, concatenation or splitting of files, statistics and much more.
Editing works like in a text editor with a focus on a simple and task-oriented operation, as such functions were streamlined to hide differences that are purely technical. For example, drives and memory are presented similar to a file

The only thing I don't like in this hex-editor is no Undo AFTER you save a file. Any change history gets cleared on save :( For the rest is the best editor (paste, insert, tabs, "search all" showing all results at bottom, memory snooper, checksum, diff between two files, etc.).brkge thinks ImHex is an alternative to HxD
Dalieba added HxD as alternative(s) to Febooti HEX Editor

In my experience, this is the best hex editor for Windows. Of course, it has all the needed tools and settings. You have lots of options to customise the view, there are powerful search and diff features. You can calculate checksums, open drive images, and even memory snapshots.
But what really sets a hex editor apart from the rest is, in my opinion, the speed at which it handles large files. And HxD has one of the cleanest, best-performing large-file implementations I've ever seen. You really won't notice much of a difference whether you're editing a file of 5 kilobytes or 5 gigabytes. Searching and saving takes a bit longer, and there's more data to scroll through, but that's about it. The UI always remains responsive, and the application doesn't break a sweat.
I use hex editors regularly to process MPEG transport streams from TV, which sometimes measure into double-digit gigabyte files. HxD handles those files as if it wasn't a big deal. Just excellent!
HxD Hex Editor is malware, a VIRUS!!!

Very easy to use. I like the options to calculate CRCs, and peek into memory and disks. I also like the Windows 7 Explorer integration that also has a menu item to open read-only
My only wish is that it appeared in the Open With... menu of every file format, but without being associated with those formats.
Ok a second wish is that I could highlight or bookmark byte ranges and have the highlight stick forever.
I added it to the SendTo menu and it's much easier now.
